Who Would Of Thunk It?

We’ve been visiting for a few days and I’ve had to turn down some yummy foods due to mild nausea.

Here are some of the highlights...

I turned down dessert which included a choice of seven different homemade pies including blueberry, peach, strawberry/rhubarb, apple ... with ice cream may I add. I passed on carrot cake, pepperoni pizza and a Boston Brute from Boston Pizza. And oh my, I had to say no to coffee. These are all some of my most favorite foods. Who would have thunk it?

What I did say yes to was strawberry yogurt, bananas... yes lots of bananas, cantaloupe, toasted cheese sandwiches, chicken soup, homemade oatmeal cookies and a milk shake.

What I’ve found so far with this mild nausea is that the more I think about eating something the better chance I have of talking myself out of wanting to eat it.

I've definitely been eating light but the body doesn't seem to mind.

Does compazine or zofrain help you? Makes John real sleepy. I guess avoiding the food that make you nauseous is better than taking the drugs anyway. You get pumped with enough stuff as it is.

Not being able to eat his favorite foods is one of the hardest parts for TJ too. He doesn't have nausea but has metal mouth so nothing tastes right to him. Having a surprise birthday party for him tonight and I know he will not be able to enjoy all the wonderful food that will be there. But, he will be able to enjoy his friends and I am sure you did as well.

I like the foods you have been able to eat!! :) But the hard part is seeing everyone else eating what you would normally enjoy and you just haven't the stomach (or the interest) in those foods.

There were a lot of things I gave up while on chemo because they tasted "funny" or "off" and some I never really went back to.

The main thing is that even with the mild nausea you are eating and that's good!!! ♥

It's funny what the body craves when you are not 100%!! I had a staph infection last Sept. not anything compared to what you are going through hon..but I can relate on a tiny level. Everthing just made me nauseated..except tuna sandwiches!!?? I ate them for days..nothing else tasted as good. Go figure. I think your body knows what it needs - who cares about the calories!! I'm just happy you are finding something that works!! Hugs hon, Sarah

there's so much "loss" when undergoing chemo that it's really hard sometimes to accept that food isn't the joyful exerience we once had. But I'm glad you're eating, that's the main goal..Hoping your nausea subsides soon!

John has started on a Neutropenic diet and will have to stay on it until the end of the year (3 months after transplant). No raw fruits or vegetables, no soft cheeses. He said since he's been on the diet (2 weeks now), he's craving salads!

Renee, I'm pretty sure this last one was the 17th treatment of Taxotere.
