Clinical Trial Update

Yesterday afternoon I received a phone call from the Cross Cancer Clinic. I have an appointment on Friday, September 10th with a new oncologist to discuss my eligibility for a clinical trial. The appointment will be about 45 minutes.

In the end, I’ll head home with a consent form that will outline all the known side effects of the proposed study drug. After careful consideration and if I’m still willing to go along with this, I’ll sign and return the form.

Wow, it feels like I’ve moved into another time zone with this.

I really hope this works out. Any clue on which drug? Or will it be a 'blind' study in which you don't know which drug? But I am hoping for minimal side effects.

I'm sure it's hard to know what to feel--mixed emotions all around. I will, as always, hope for the best for you.

Daria, I'm elated that you have this option. As a gay man I have so many and I mean many friends who have gone this route (aids clinical studies) and thankfully are still alive today thanks to clinical studies. I'm confident that the studies done with cancer are much further advanced then as is with AIDS. I know you will make the right decision, if anybody has the strength to do this you do! I hope you will educate us further as you go through these next steps towards winning this battle!!

Daria, the one thing I am left with when reading your Posts is that you never, never, never give up HOPE.
Looking forward to learning more about the Clinical Trial after your appointment.

Daria, was having dinner with a friend this evening and the subject of Clinical Studies treatment came up. I was amazed at the amount of positive information. Currently there is a drug for AIDS whereby patients are taking one injection a year. No other meds unless their immune system drops, they go back on meds until their immune system is back to snuff and then stop the meds again. This means that AIDS victims may be looking at no longer taking drugs with the exception of one shot a year! The individual who is taking part in this study LOVES it, feels utterly fantastic and loving life. My darling, this treatment that you are about to undergo maybe better treatment then what we've had in the past. The sky is looking a beautiful blue and look....a rainbow!
