Daria Maluta has Passed

Daria Maluta passed away last night at 04:34 on Jan 22, 2011 at the Royal Alexandra Hospital here in Edmonton AB. I was by her side and was able to kiss her goodbye several times during the night and then watched her slip away quietly in her sleep.

I’m a little too emotional to talk about anything else right now. Meeting right away with family at her mother's place and I’ll post more later.

Don, I have followed Daria for a long time and I am so sorry for your loss. She was an amazing comforter to so many cancer patients/survivors and I am very thankful for her help to me. I am a 2 1/2 year patient still not cured myself (different cancer) at age 31 with four small children. Cancer is an awful disease. I will keep fighting and will remember Daria forever. Thank you for all the support you must have given her for her to courageously continue posting until her last few days. YOu must be an amazing husband.

God's blessings to you as you navigate this time of loss.

Although my heart is breaking for all of those left behind who will miss you Daria, I am so grateful that the end came quickly. I would not have wanted you to lay bedridden and in pain for days or weeks or months. Better to lose you sooner and have you be at peace. You will NOT be forgotten Daria. You have touched so many lives with your courage and honesty. Surely, you have earned a very special place in Heaven...

Don, my prayers now turn to you in this time of grief. What an ordeal you have been through. I often think that to see someone that we love in pain is worse than being in pain ourselves. Daria couldn't possibly have stayed as strong and positive as she was without a very strong and loving partner beside her. I am deeply sorry for your loss and hope you are able to someday find peace in the many joyful memories you must have of the remarkable woman who was your wife.

May God bless you and comfort you and all the rest of Daria's family.

Daria fought a huge fight and cancer is just a bastard. Much love to you and your family. xxxxxx

Rest in peace, dear Daria. Love to you, Don, and to her family. And Don, when you have a chance and are able, please post the comments so that there is closure on the blog and also post an update on the funeral arrangements.... not that we can all attend (I am in South Africa for example)but would like to know.
Also, please keep this blog on the internet as I, for one, would like to read her earlier postings. Thanks. Go well, Don.

Dear Don,

Please know that Daria will not be forgotten as her spirit and immense generosity will live on in this Blog and with her poignant words. I only had the pleasure of meeting her once and that was profound. Looking through her bucket list I hope that #29 - to die peacefully is crossed off. And please know that #9 - make a difference in someone’s life can be crossed off over and over again. Also #23 - to fly first class should be crossed off as I have no doubt Daria is flying first class now. Sincere condolences.

Yay for Daria! Oh pretty lady, I sure hope you know how many people your story has touched. I am only halfway through your blog, and I am so touched by your writings. I usually read through all your comments as well as your posts. I can only hope to help in the same ways as you have helped with your blog. I am beyond broke financially, but I have a wealth of spirit and survival that I need to share with others. All I have ever wanted from the beginning was to make a difference in someone elses's life. Thank you for paving the way for me Daria!
